Heroes Turned to Whores

Heroes Turned to Whores
find me inside
I tried my best to understand
identify the faith that you have turned to sand
locked me inside
is this a history you'll die for?
kids asking why their heroes always turn to whores
but for now they'll pray, they'll kneel, they'll say
"we're banking on a secret story"
don't jump the gun!
I long for a sign
my education cannot fail
years to realize my youth was taken to and jailed
find me inside
behind the veil, a wink and a nod
kept it inside
you made those kids hate god

Saints + Soldiers

Saint + Soldiers
took a picture of your car
the paper's said you've come so far
gascan, dashboard
the library's on fire
you've come to settle the score
NYC's a city that wants more from you
I met a man who spoke with God
but I never even understood the man
but better times will find you
and you've got no right to think your daughter might forget your life
giving in is easy, but then they'll think they've won
they'll say "it's the only thing he's ever done"
they don't mind to question your taste
they can't see your art is cut and paste
your legacy is hereby laid to waste
and families rarely find the song
and you know the songs don't last for long
it's when I make these islands disappear
you'll know the saints are coming here
but better times could find you
if you think you might
forget the day that robbed you of your life
the royalty believes that the years are far between
the saints and soldiers worshipping the queen

Join the Light

Join the Light
out of reach now, out of reach now
gone into a pattern that slips away
forgetting real for getting lost
sucked into a hole that's speaking your own thought
the girl we tried to understand
has fallen down beside herself
she's writing her reality
and trading verse for honey tea
offer one or two
it's warm outside
let's join the light
now there's a switchboard running beneath the dunes
so families shield their eyes from the ruins
has the situation come too soon?
to make us see our love for the gloom

The Laugh Track
a suitor's got his eyes on you
now you feel you've got to do something too
doesn't matter if you think its true
cos his aim is true, but it's not you
and though it doesn't feel right,
you know you've got worse ones coming after you
and you've got to be in bed by 3
but it's well past that now,
and he just won't slow down
doesn't seem to be the type of man
who gives a thought to writing out a lengthy plan
but now you're going hand in hand
you think you'll start to see, you'll understand
how you've gone so far so long
and though it doesn't feel right,
his bedroom was a mess,
but you still shut off your phone
cos you do what you're told
because you never liked to be alone
it's just a shame
the laugh track fades

On A City

On A City
don't be a certain- fall behind with your footsteps
try not to make them align
cos when you find you can't decide,
you've gone too far with what you've got
now if you relax, take a yellow,
take this paint off my face and wait
place it on a mask
you can haunt your own dreams
and show us what the fear is all about
we'll find shelter, we'll make homes
we'll build houses from our bones
our very own bones
cos when you're tired and on the wire,
you've gone too far with what you've got
place it on a mask, it'll age a hundred years
only to be left on a city bus
sleep, run away,
you won't know if you go with the demons that fall on your shoulder
but don't give them away,
they're beside every point that you wanted to make
worried, and why?
for the sake of a feeling you can't help but feeling is lost
