Soft Contact 02:07
Soft Contact when I woke up to this feeling i felt soaked in my bones like I'd never planned to be lonely i just need somebody to hear this favor for me what's it done for me? what's it done for me? what's it done for me? then i cast out all of these notions is this the first of many years alone? or what's to come? the soft contact? will I compromise this indifference? any claims to the stars can't be taken with ours and matched with smoke from an empty bar what's it done for me? what's it done for me? what's it done for me?
2.
Let's Try It 03:00
Let's Try It so who's to blame? we're asking for a change but we're not getting anywhere today not with this rain not with this narrow lack of faith defeat the darkest side of grey commit to doom- you might as well assume your life's no better, your love's an empty womb so if you think we'll get away with it all we've got to do is pray for it weren't we talking about being really something worth explaining? so if you think we'll get away with it all we've got to do is pray for it
3.
And After 02:43
And After they'll lead sad and expensive lives, find truth in one another's eyes extensive lies run deeper than my imagination the fear creates the threat, my love a victim of the modern age resist this slow momentum before (and after) it eats you and all your friends alive once and for all dreams will rise to the fallout lines the drawn out stakes that we've replaced fools don't cry for accepting why we live as if we never asked the question resist this slow momentum before (and after) it eats you and all your friends alive once and for all
4.
Danger's Hollow evil eye, where are you? your threats mean nothing in danger's hollow so we're not going there no more, no no it's not for us or anyone with design in their minds winners, like winners been countin' through with fingertips like newspapers sold on skid row you've been living like a phantom what a production, what a show; it's unbelievable! winners, like winners we'd like to believe that you are a queen
5.
Dodger 03:45
Dodger the record skips on a travellin' tune makes me feel like I don't know what to do our bodies claim the dark distress and last week was a mess well was it better than the rest, dear? my fingers guide the needle back but once you're off the tracks... DODGER, you come on strong you're half surprises and one half gone our summer/talent washed away from day to day to day with neon eyes to grey but we're dancing all the same conversations steal the stage but soon a drifter gets his way on a microphone or a DJ's case we're not bowing to the state cos we're deflecting soviet hate we like the noise so we stay up late
6.
So Much for the Secret blank puzzle, nine pieces three hearts were buried underneath no concept, ill emotion the boroughs were blanketed with sound and if we even tried, we wouldn't find out why so much for the secret and all we ever knew was just a book to you found the time to hold up your glass of wine you'll try, you'll find everything we see, believe, conceive, where we all agree the right pocket to discover and recover islands from the blue in a cottage in the country, you learn something from your solitude but I hate it when I need it, so I keep a secret and I could never claim pure providence, this confidence it takes patience to hear the story the books beneath the bed it takes courage to speak with royal blood we are slightly accelerating
7.
Dream States 02:18
Dream States the story's changed, but you're on my side I can't defend or stop asking why miracles will happen, leisure has arrived that's how we go 'round here wonder, what will become? insignificant trials are won but any road would have you believe that it's a wonder to stop make-believin' that's how we go 'round here I've reached a point I'm not sure what I need with you came a curse through a blessing
8.
Give It A Name Only when I wanted would I ask for, would I pray to I would call out to a spectre but why must the most unfamiliar be the most unoriginal too? I had only the vaguest ideas of what I was doing, or what I had started but a child understands the traditions at hand I have only myself to blame now to give it a name, how? I can argue both sides with a pen or a knife you can't just depend on the land you can't just rely on a man you can't just depend on the land you can't just rely on a man fascination overcome fascination overcome
9.
Car Crash Headline I arrive on holiday you believe it's something else what were my opinions,? 2 years and it's hard to tell afternoon has taken everybody else by storm but darkness will invite us lead us to the ocean floor oh it looks like trouble, looks can kill me an order of abominations looks like trouble, looks can kill me should've believed her, boy, should've believed her, boy far away the family glows burning up in retail fire the thought of books that tell me, tell me how to waste my time car crash headline car crash headline
10.
The Afterlife is A Slideshow I've been setup, configured, bound to be disappointed The way that things are going- I'll be put to sleep I'm off to sea again You stay at your house and I'll build up my palace It's not a promise to defend a lady's honour It's a travesty! If only it was easy to say "I did it just to be contrary" Just to fall astray from the notion of why traditions stand tall Apologies, my biology's grown cold but I'm spinnin, I'm spinnin on monorail in a slideshow
11.
Flocking Disaster a tidal wave, a burst of flames a blinding light will lead the way darkness found across the sound a cold you can't imagine now has thwarted power the noise just came across our lane it's louder now, but silence can't explain where we are- it only breaks us down my people are flocking disaster my people are flocking disaster newsman said we've filled our heads the lines he writes so easily misread we choke to sing thru everything and expectations of happy endings ask where we are cos science breaks us down my people are flocking disaster my people are flocking disaster the car's gone dead the radio's off we better run we better run at least we think we're getting somewhere it's given us a reason at least we think we're getting somewhere we'll never set foot alone again
12.
Domino Destroy wherein you present the facts, where are you when time attacks? unexpected you create essential noise for ghosts of little girls and boys the season's wearin' down on my soul blackmail every audience, alternate the consequence remember childhood often titles still retain meaning if they still remain the season's wearin' down on my soul at a speed I can't conceive domino destroy what's left spring and summer, all you wanted can I turn it off?

about

Journal of Retreat has all the characteristics of a great pop album: immediate hooks and extended-release sleepers, driving anthems and layered musings. Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dup Crosson, the musician behind Saint Solitude, weaves a collection of twelve songs that is a watershed moment for this young artist.

Alternating between indie rock, shoegaze and Britpop, drums drive without being clichéd, guitars are hypnotic and playful, urgent and spacey, the keyboards atmospheric, and guest contributions of trumpet and cello add a blast of Beatlesque color and musicality. At the helm of it all is Crosson’s voice and brilliant harmonies, his compelling performances articulating the smart and spacious melodies.

The sometimes low-fi aesthetic (Crosson recorded the album in a small rented home in the mountains of NC) makes for an intimate listen, haunting and blissful. Producer Andrew Schatzberg, brought in to mix, brings a dreamy and distressed aesthetic to the mix, à la Radiohead meets The Flaming Lips.

Released by Alive and Well Records.
